Sam Gagner
Saw this on Twitter today. Hate to say I told you so, but I told you so...
"Since Sam Gagner had his 8 point game (Feb 2) & followed it with 3 points (Feb 4), he has scored 6 goals & added 7 assists in 28 games." --Craig Button I still think he can be a viable 3rd line Center but that's about it. Not saying he's not a decent player, just saying he isn't a top line center like all you guys said he was. Just my opinion. |

RE: Sam Gagner
Who said he was? I'm not saying you are wrong, I just honestly don't remember the conversation.
My two cents |

RE: Sam Gagner
we had a huge discussion somewhere (thought it was on this forum but i can't find the message). it was mostly coming from the Oiler supporters. I know there are at least two big Oiler fans in our leagues. Luke I think was one. Maybe Dave?

RE: Sam Gagner
Dave is definitely an Oilers fan, so he would have been in on it for sure.

RE: Sam Gagner
David Hodgson (Feb 3 1:07 AM): how many points would Gagner have gotten tonight? 8 points to tie Gretzky/Coffey's record.
David Hodgson (Feb 3 1:07 AM): 1 off the NHL record Zack Robitaille (Feb 3 9:34 AM): too bad he's a one game wonder. huge night but he went like 15 games without doing anything. maybe this increases his trade value a bit. David Hodgson (Feb 3 11:25 AM): correction: 2 off the NHL record. David Hodgson (Feb 3 11:50 AM): Zack, to call him a one game wonder isn't fair at all. he's not a top-line player, but a consistent second liner who puts in a strong effort every night. David Hodgson (Feb 3 11:52 AM): a player like Brunnstrom is my idea of a one game wonderDavid Hodgson (Feb 3 11:54 AM): Gagner is a 40-50 pt player consistently, and is still very young Zack Robitaille (Feb 3 12:33 PM): Gagner has 2 assists in his previous 9 games. the only consistency in Gagner's game is that he's inconsistent on a regular basis. he may play hard every game but he hasn't lived up to his hype. I think he's a great kid but as soon as RNH is back, Gagner will be back on the 2nd line being inconsistent with Hemskey and Smyth/Horcoff. Zack Robitaille (Feb 3 12:34 PM): I hope the best for the kid and maybe this game is his break out game but we'll have to wait and see. for one day, no one can take away that performance. David Hodgson (Feb 4 11:56 PM): hey Zack, after one period tonight i have two words for you: suck it.David Hodgson (Feb 4 11:56 PM): two game wonder, maybe? Zack Robitaille (Feb 5 9:42 AM): 2 games means shit. yahoo. so he's doing the same thing that he's done his whole career; being streaky. Happens to every player. P.S. don't forget he's playing two other great players. If he continues getting points for the rest of the month then you can call me. Until then, he's still consistently inconsistent. Jon Reynolds (Feb 5 3:00 PM): it's a flash in the pan. gagner will settle back into his usual routine of getting a point every 3rd or 4th game. David Hodgson (Feb 5 3:20 PM): i'm not saying he's a star at all, but you're severely underrating him David Hodgson (Feb 5 3:22 PM): Gagner has averaged 40-50 points in each of his 5 seasons since entering the league at age 18. he's a good 2nd line centre. in fantasy terms, i agree he's tough to carry on your team because of the streaky nature of his supporting team (not his effort), but that's going to change. David Hodgson (Feb 5 3:34 PM): only one player from the 2007 draft has more career points than Gagner, and that's Patrick Kane. say what you will about him not being a star, but saying he's a flash in the pan is not giving credit where it's due. David Hodgson (Feb 5 5:02 PM): don't feel bad i left Gagner on the bench last night and Ward's SO on the bench earlier and have lost by 1.5 points. David Hodgson (Feb 5 5:08 PM): sorry, 5.5 points Ken Boldt (Feb 6 10:33 AM): Getting Reimer for Miller is starting to finally look like a great move. that's two straight shutouts with the second one having 49 saves! I know this is the Gagne thread, but we should really start an entire new discussion about Ken's comment there at the end. !! |

RE: Sam Gagner
Jon, I have repeatedly said, if not online, then in person to Luke, that I got screwed when I traded Miller. That said, when I traded him, his save percentage was below 0.900. That's PATHETIC for a #1 goalie in the NHL, especially one who has a Vezina, and we aren't talking about having that after 2 games in October or something, this was in January. Take a look at his charts, his fantasy points skyrocketed in February. Sure, hindsight is 20/20 and I should have held onto him, but at the time Buffalo was out of the playoff picture by a long shot, his stats were shit, and there was no indication that things were going to turn around. Also, in the 26 starts I got out of Miller, his fantasy points per start (FPS) was around 8. Reimer started 13 games for me with an FPS of over 11. Miller had an FPS of over 13 on Peca's team. There is no way I, or anyone could have predicted that kind of turn around, especially with the season half over. If the trade had taken place in October, yeah, I look like a complete tool, but with more than half the season over, and a goalie, and his team, playing like shit...
Anyway, as for Gagner, I half agree with Dave. He repeatedly said that Gagner is not a star, and that his streakiness is terrible from a fantasy hockey standpoint, however, on a full season basis, he is basically a lock for 40+ points each year. He has been incredibly consistent in that regard. Where I disagree with Dave is that he said that Gagner is a 2nd-line centre. With 40 points a season, I would slot him in on the third line. My two cents |
