Kyle Turris
The Phoenix Coyotoes just recently finally resigned Kyle Turris to a 2-year contract worth $1.2 million in year one and $1.6 million in year two. Speculation is from the TSN insiders is that Turris signed the contract because the Coyotoes refused to trade an unsigned player to another team. Apparently now that he is signed the Coyotoes taking offers for him in order to move him out. Potential interest is supposedly coming from Canadian teams with Ottawa, Calgary and Toronto said to be the biggest three in the running. Ottawa is into a rebuild so I think adding Turris would be a good option for them. Calgary needs a number one center and I don't think that Turris fills that void as he hasn't really lived up to expectations in Phoniex. And Toronto always seems to be named as a team interested so I would be surprised to see him actually go to Toronto considering they have Tim Connelly and Mikahel Grabovsky as their top 2 centers.

RE: Kyle Turris
I just listened to the Team 1200 in Ottawa and they were talking about Turris. Yes, I agree he's worth a shot, he was the 3rd overall pick in 2007 BUT that was 5 drafts ago. Everyone's past him by. The reason I don't really like the Sen's going after him is because Phoenix is going to want a first round draft pick AND a prospect for an unproven player. The signing of Filatov was great because we only sent a 3rd round pick for him. Giving away a 1st round pick which could potentially end up as Yakupov or another top end pick for an unproven player is ridiculous.

If the price is right...as in the Sen's trade away one of their 10 quality D-men then I say do it.
Otherwise...Calgary can have him. hahha.

RE: Kyle Turris
So, Zack... The Sens traded one of their 10 quality D-men... and I think you're still pissed about the trade?

Personally, I'm actually a bit excited. Especially after listening to Pierre McGuire this morning. Say what you want about Pierre, but he is pretty good/fair about evaluating talent.

...A couple things I remember him predicting recently... Claude Giroux as a Hart candidate and challenging for the scoring title, everyone but the Oilers regretting that they passed on Adam Larsson, opining in early September that the Sens should play Cowen and Karlsson together as they would make a dynamic duo... And that's just from listening to his 20 minute spot on the Team 1200 every weekday morning. He also mentioned this summer not to get too excited about Rundblad because he's not as great of a skater as EK and he will struggle on the smaller ice surface. Basically called a one or two year adjustment period before DR would be a solid player, which has been fairly accurate as well.

Anyways, he spoke GLOWINGLY about Turris this morning. Talked about how he's the hardest worker on the team, extremely underrated defensively, excels with the puck in tight spaces and said he should blossom here into a top-line forward. He also said this is NOTHING like the Filatov trade. Filatov was a low-risk, high reward trade that has not worked as of yet (obviously) because Filatov just has no desire to put in the work required to succeed at the NHL level. Turris doesn't have the same problem. Work ethic is not an issue. Character is not an issue. He said we will be pleasantly surprised.

Very interesting opinions about the trade. Personally, I love it. I'm excited. Hopefully it works out!

RE: Kyle Turris
I think the change will be good for Turris there was to much expectations on him in Phoenix to step in as the number one center where as in Ottawa he can slide in behind Spezza as the number two guy and not be expected to put up first line numbers. Knowing that he is not expected to lead the first line and also getting away from other teams checking lines might be exactly what Turris needs to finally prove he belongs in the NHL.

RE: Kyle Turris
I don't think it's a bad trade per say. I'm just not sure it was needed at the time. I was never really high on Rundblad, especially not after watching him this season thus far. I know Turris was injured a few times since being drafted BUT he was drafted in 2007. that's forever ago. I was in my 3rd year of Uni in 2007. haha. i think he was given ample time to produce but hasn't. so i have questions about that. also, how can you say Turris has no character issues? Someone who holds out on a contract and basically says that he doesn't want to play in Phoenix seems to be a cry baby to me. that's a character issue in my opinion.

that being said, this move was the Sen's addressing an area of need. they think they are deep on the blue line and not so deep at Centre. well it seems they've addressed that. we won't know if this was a good trade for at least this year and into next year.

i love the Sen's, I love Paul McLean, I love all of the Sen's young players and the direction that they are headed in. Things are looking good in Ottawa. What I do fear a bit is Murray making moves like Turris AFTER the sourness that is in the mouth's of ottawa fans after Kovalev and Filatov.

one more thing...I have a feeling that Kuba and Gonchar might very well be dealt at the trade deadline to contending teams. If this is the case we move forward with:
Karlsson-Cowen-Phillips-Carkner-Lee-???

anyways...i may have gone back and forth on my point a bit but basically what i was trying to say is that i'm ok with the trade and i just have to have hope that Turris finds his scoring touch and passion again.

RE: Kyle Turris
Isn't it possible, though, that he was working his ass off and for whatever reason he wasn't being given the opportunity in Phoenix, which is why he held out? I mean, think about it. You're a player who's been working your tail off for 4 years, only getting minimal minutes despite your skill (based on TOI/goal, Turris was the best player on Phoenix last year) and then they want to stiff you on your next contract? I might be pissed too. So, I don't necessarily think it's a character issue.

I was looking at some of the other top teams in the East and their depth chart at C (when healthy) and we don't really compare. Obviously, C has been a need of ours for some time.

I don't see how Kovalev and Filatov compare to Turris... Both Filatov and Kovi were well-known slackers who had all-world skill with piss poor attitudes/work ethic/effort. Turris has never been accused of being any of those things. I would argue he's probably not as talented as the other two, but give the other factors, he's nothing like them either.

I hope they deal Gonch and Kuba and get some young players/picks back. Makes sense to me. What about Wiercioch, Gryba and Borowiecki? They're the next in line at D, are they not? Might as well see what we have in them. Also, there will be a free agent or two next year whom we can sign to fill a 3/4 role, no?

RE: Kyle Turris
It is possible I guess that he was working his ass off and was given the shaft BUT how often does that happen? from my knowledge, hard work typically pays off.

I hope you and Pierre are right Brett about all this hard work and character stuff.

we'll see how this pans out tonight when he's on the 2nd line centering Foligno and Condra.

RE: Kyle Turris
Hahaha, I have never followed Turris, tbh. I've just heard what Pierre's been saying and according to him, no one has ever questioned Turris' work ethic...
